Ok so here goes. Amy and I got AT&T U-VERSE I'm going to try to run through a quick review.I must admit I had heard and read online a lot of horror stories about the service and things not working and what not. So far I've had no real issues (more on this later)
Install: Installer was a guy that went to my rival school and knows some of my friends from there so we did some talking during the install. I got to say he was very professional and answered every question truthfully with no bullshit like some others would have.
He called about 30 minutes before he arrived which I though was cool just to let me know he was on his way. The only beef I have about the install process it they give you a window of time mine was 1pm-3pm but the tech arrived at 1:30pm.
the install of U-Verse is very different than any of the other installs I've experienced with cable company's. Our package included U-Verse TV 1 total home DVR and 2 additional boxes, internet, and phone.
the install took roughly 4 1/2 hours. Which I guess isn't too bad considering that they tell you it can take up to 6 hours.
The tech went over everything with me. He made out a plan and told me what he would so if any obstacles or issues came up. Very well thought out.
All serviced run from what they call a residential gateway. This thing is kind of a monster but it runs everything. Cool thing is if you had a house wired with cat 5 to all rooms then your set as their service runs on cat5 or coaxial cable.
there were no issues at all with the install. I was very impressed as I honestly thought we would bump into a few.
U-Verse TV: this stuff rocks, the quality and features are awesome, Amy and I were sold on this for the simple fact that you can record up to 4 shows at one time and can also record and watch recorded programming from any connected TV in the house. Truly awesome. They also have a few extra features that I just think are bad ass.
Media share: you can play and watch media on your networked PC's on any connected TV. The way this works is with Media Player 11 using the library share feature or you can use Windows Media Connect. Stream Music or Photos right to your TV's. I can see how this will come in handy with parties down stairs on the surround sound system.
YahooYellowPages.com: This is kind of cool feature where you enter your zip code and then can search on TV for a business or phone#.
Internet: The internet is the only issue that I had problems with. It took some tweaking to get my network configured correctly and for all my PC's to see each other. Not sure how helpful customer service would have been with this as I took it upon myself to resolve the issue. Once this was all good, it has not been an issue what so ever. Speed is as advertised.
Overall thoughts: Very, Very, Happy. So far this thing rocks and I couldn't be more happier. Also the ability to be able to set up programming and recorded shows from a cell phone and web make this service even more enjoyable. On a scale of 1-10 I'd right now give it a 7. With the rumors of other features that are coming out this rating may go higher but honestly the overall experience so far has been well worth it.
Ok back to my TV now.
for anyone that has any questions, please leave a comment and I'll respond
